Aloha! Southwest Announces Plan for Routes to Hawaii in 2018

Southwest Airlines made a big announcement Wednesday night! They are planning to add routes from continental US to Hawaii in 2018. That’s right – you will soon be able to use your Rapid Rewards® to go to Hawaii! This is a great addition to an already extensive route map throughout the Continental US, Caribbean and Central America.

In a press release on the company’s website, Chairman & CEO Gary Kelly said “Hawaii is an important place for Southwest Airlines because so many people count on us to take them everywhere they want to go reliably and affordably. We’re ready and excited to address a request we’ve heard for years.”

Southwest announced the news on Twitter Wednesday night. Service details will be announced at a later date. See the full Southwest Airlines press release here.

How can you earn Southwest Rapid Rewards®?

Southwest points can be earned in a number of ways. The two main ways are flying Southwest Airlines and using a co-branded credit card. Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio.

Another major selling point of Southwest Airlines is it’s Companion Pass. The Companion Pass is earned by accruing 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year and is good for the remainder of the year it is earned and the following calendar year. This allows a Southwest traveler to bring along one companion for the cost of taxes and fees only. This is definitely one of the best deals in the airline industry and soon you should be able to use this to Hawaii!
